"The Birdhouse is just gorgeous! The most perfect retreat on my own to recharge my batteries. Reading, writing and gazing over the beautiful Cuillins from within the walls of this cosy, quirky find. And so much to see once I explored the area! Local food choice – delicious! Further afield food choice – Delicious! Beach walks on the doorstep, birds and wildlife everywhere… and I got to meet Minnie, the super friendly Golden Retriever. Can’t wait to return!"
"The long trip from the south to the Birdhouse in Applecross was definitely worth it! What a find in the Highlands of Scotland. Julie’s attention to detail and creativity shines through in the Birdhouse interiors. Pitched high up at the back of her garden, it feels very private. Julie and Minnie’s warm hospitality is on tap if you so wish. Watching the ever-changing weather over the Cuillins of Skye from the Birdhouse was bliss. The birdlife in the garden will keep you amused …. and if you’re very lucky you’ll see the local pine martin! Five stars all round!"
"What a restorative week we had at the Beautiful Birdhouse in Applecross. Calming, creative interiors that are thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for our perfect break. Julie and Minnie, her friendly Golden Retriever, were charming hosts. The surrounding area had so many beautiful walks straight from the doorstep and fabulous cycle routes – we did the full circle around the coast road and back up over the Bealach hill on our bikes! Then we finished off our evening with dinner and a pint of local Applecross Ale at the Applecross Inn. Very much looking forward to our return Birdhouse trip!"
"A week at the Birdhouse isn’t long enough. So relaxing, luxurious, cosy and equipped with everything we needed. Julie has thought of everything to make the Birdhouse a special find. Our spaniel felt very at home here and we were blessed with west coast blue skies for our week of exploring and beach walks. We saw a sea eagle and an otter and caught a glimpse of the Culduie pine martin! There is so much to see and do within the immediate area but the Birdhouse is also in the perfect location for exploring Skye and Torridon on day trips. Julie and Minnie made us all feel extremely welcome and were there if we needed any advice or good conversation. A special place, a special find!"
"I spent a glorious week at the Birdhouse relaxing and recharging my batteries. The views over the Cuillins of Skye were breathtaking with late summer sunsets to die for over the Inner Sound, Raasay and Skye. A short walk from the Birdhouse was a peaceful vantage point where a colony of seals swim in the sea and lounge on the rocks. A bit further away was the beautiful Coral beach walk with its clear blue west coast waters. On a couple of chilly rainy days, the wood burner was on in the Birdhouse and I hunkered down to watch the weather unfold outside. So many memorable photographic opportunities during my week stay – mountains, wildlife, birdlife, woodlands and coastlines. Julie has made the Birdhouse a very welcoming, unique retreat and I won’t hesitate to return for another week of bliss."
"The Birdhouse at Applecross was our cosy, quirky, stylish and brilliantly appointed retreat for an amazing and restorative week-long October stay in this stunningly beautiful part of Scotland. We walked the 7-mile loop trail from Applecross to Sands Beach, taking in the majestic views across the Inner Sound towards the Isle of Raasay and the Cuillins on Skye. We walked down from the Birdhouse to Coral Beach; a beautiful and ancient pathway leading to a tranquil and unspoilt beach. And we dined on amazing langoustines in the Applecross Inn. Birdhouse owner Julie, who lives near the Birdhouse in Shell Cottage is delightful and freely provided great local insights on things to do and helped with planning our activities. And seeing the lovable Minnie, her retriever, every day as we set out and returned was always a joy."
